Taiwan’s AWSC wins orders from Japan for GaAs switch products

2010-12-27

Taiwanese gallium arsenide foundry Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC) has won orders from Japan for GaAs switch products, as well as receiving verification from international integrated device manufacturers (IDMs), reports Digitimes.com. Volume shipments to new customers will start in second-quarter 2011.

GaAs device maker Skyworks Solutions Inc of Woburn, MA, USA remains AWSC’s largest client, contributing 60–70% of total revenue. However, this is likely to drop to 50–55% in 2011, as AWSC expands its portfolio of clients, sources indicate.

AWSC is likely to see its sales impacted by seasonality in first-quarter 2011, but start rebounding in the second quarter. Monthly revenues are likely to top NT$200m (US$6.69m) sometime in 2011, the sources estimated, adding that the firm could reach NT$3bn in revenue for the entire year.

Buoyed by strong demand for power amplifiers (PAs) for smartphones, AWSC saw revenues double year-on-year to NT$1.78bn in the first 11 months of 2010.
